Quarantined Email

Updated on

Microsoft automatically detects and quarantines some malicious, and suspicious emails.  This is in addition to email that is suspected to be spam and moved to the Junk folder.  When emails are placed in Quarantine, the recipient is automatically sent a quarantine notification email as shown below.

You can identify official quarantine emails by checking for the Fullerton College Seal and confirming that the email is from the Fullerton College ACT Help Desk

Releasing a Quarantined Message:

The “Review message” feature in Microsoft’s quarantine service allows you to examine emails flagged and quarantined by the system’s security protocols.  When an email is quarantined, it has been identified as potentially harmful such as spam, phishing attempts, or containing malware.

  • Review message: You can safely review the content of the quarantined email without exposing your system to potential threats.
  • Request Release: Based on your assessment, you can request the release of the email to your inbox.  This generates a support request for Fullerton College's ACT Help Desk to review and release the email.  If the ACT Help Desk identifies any apparent characteristics in the quarantined email that would harm Fullerton College, the request will take additional time to process as it would be escalated and reviewed by District Information Services.
    • Things to check before requesting release:
      • Do you recognize the sender and have you reviewed the message?
      • Is this email consistent with other emails that you would normally receive from this sender?
      • Does the email have the usual signatures, footers, greetings, and other characteristics you would normally associate with this sender for this type of email?
      • When in doubt, contact the sender via phone, MS Teams, or a separate email to verify that they sent you the email.
  • Block Sender: If the sender is not legitimate, you can keep yourself, your co-workers, and Fullerton College safe by indicating that all future email from this sender should be automatically blocked.
