Faculty

Web hosting for faculty is broken down into three general categories, based on the intent of the web site and the type of content being hosted.

  1. Instructional - Course Materials : Web content that is directly related to courses assigned to the faculty member, such as course materials for students actively enrolled in those courses (Syllabi, Assignments, Videos, etc)
  2. Instructional - Coursework verification and development : Web hosting identical to the web hosting provided to students, for the intent of developing new coursework, or to verify that existing coursework functions as expected on the student web hosting platform.
  3. Non-Instructional : Content not directly related to coursework or direct instructional support of courses.

Faculty - Instructional - Course Materials

Faculty are encouraged to provide Course Materials to students via Canvas.  This provides a single unified point for students to access materials for all of their courses, and allows all student support organizations across the district to assist students in accessing this content.

Alternative options include:

  1. Course materials may be included within the appropriate department or division web site for the course.  Please contact your department or division admin assistants to discuss this option.
  2. Web hosting within the https://staff.fullcoll.edu WordPress multi-site may be provided at the discretion of the Office of Campus Communications.  This option is best suited to faculty that wish to have hosting outside of Canvas, and do not require server-side scripting or large file storage requirements.
  3. Individual web hosting utilizing a custom sub-domain of faculty.fullcoll.edu based on the faculty member's FC email address.
    • Example sub-domain URL for [email protected] would be https://jdoe.faculty.fullcoll.edu
    • Individual web hosting requires faculty to adhere to all applicable federal, state, district, and campus policies including but not limited to accessibility, privacy, security, and branding. It is the responsibility of individuals to research and comply with all policies.
    • A website may be suspended without advance notice:
      • if the website is found to be hosting content that is not directly related to course instruction, or
      • if the site is not in compliance with all policies, or
      • if it poses a threat to campus or district systems by Fullerton College Academic Computing, District Information Services, or any security monitoring services & vendors contracted by North Orange County Community College District.
    • Faculty may be required to submit a web site hosting request form, indicating the courses the web site will support along with a brief justification statement indicating why individual web hosting is required.
    • To prevent abandoned websites from providing misleading or confusing information to students, faculty will need to periodically reaffirm that their site is still needed and for which courses it is applicable.

Faculty -  Instructional - Coursework verification and development

This web hosting is intended for the following scenarios:

  1. To allow faculty to deploy copies of the coursework they are assigning to students into web hosting that is identical to the web hosting provided to students in order to validate the coursework is compatible with the web hosting provided to students.
  2. To allow faculty a space in which to develop new coursework in support of current courses, or future curriculum development.

Individual web hosting will be provided a sub-domain of student.fullcoll.edu based on a pseudo banner id generated for the faculty member

  • Example sub-domain URL: https://99990001.student.fullcoll.edu
  • Individual web hosting requires faculty to adhere to all applicable federal, state, district, and campus policies including but not limited to accessibility, privacy, security, and branding. It is the responsibility of individuals to research and comply with all policies.
  • A website may be suspended without advance notice:
    • if the website is found to be hosting content that is not directly related to coursework verification and development, or
    • if the site is not in compliance with all policies, or
    • if it poses a threat to campus or district systems by Fullerton College Academic Computing, District Information Services, or any security monitoring services & vendors contracted by North Orange County Community College District.
  • Faculty may be required to submit a web site hosting request form, indicating the courses the web site will support along with a brief justification statement indicating why individual web hosting is required.
  • Verification and Development web hosting is time-limited for 1 year.  Faculty will be notified a minimum of 30 days prior to web hosting being deprovisioned, and may request time extensions at that time.
